In this episode recorded on February 2, 2006, Kate Foy talks about the beginnings of the Shakespeare in Queens Park Festival: where the idea came from, and how USQ staff and students, local government and the wider community in Toowoomba Australia combined to produce one of the city’s major annual cultural events.  SiQP is celebrating its 4th year this year, and will for the first time, tour to Hervey Bay on Queensland’s Fraser Coast after the Toowoomba season concludes on March 11 2007.

Edward Foy (Macbeth) talks about preparing to play the central character of this year’s mainstage production.  He talks about the daily rehearsal routine, the weaponry in the production, and the challenges he faces in the lead up to the season.

THE COSTUME DESIGNER
The Costume Designer
Carolyn Taylor-Smith has designed the costumes for the past 3 SiQP Festivals.  Here she discusses working with the Director to create the production’s visual concept, and the logistical challenge of designing and building costumes for Macbeth.

THE COMPOSER
The Composer
Lauren O’Rourke has composed the score for this year’s mainstage production of Macbeth.  She discusses her approach to creating the musically thematic journey across the play.  Lauren, who is also playing the role of Lady Macbeth, also talks about the challenges of scoring a theme for her character.

THE FIGHT DIRECTOR
The Fight Director
Richard Nizielski SAFDi (Society of Australian Fight Directors) discusses his approach to working with actors on creating the scenes of staged violence in Macbeth.  SAFDi was established in 1993 with the vision of providing the Australian entertainment industry with the highest quality standards and practices in the art forms of stage combat and fight directing.  All BThA Acting majors are trained by SAFDi teachers as part of their movement studies.
